Exam Tips: Vernier caliper and micrometer readings are common exam questions — practise reading both scales. | In QC vs QA questions, QC = inspection (reactive), QA = process (proactive). | Go/no-go gauge: go = minimum, no-go = maximum; part must PASS go and FAIL no-go to be in tolerance. | SPC questions: explain the trend detection benefit (early warning before defects occur). | Always link measurement instruments to their resolution: Vernier 0.02 mm, micrometer 0.01 mm.
Common Errors: ✗ Vernier calipers are more accurate than micrometers. ✓ Micrometers have higher resolution (0.01 mm) and better repeatability than Vernier calipers (0.02 mm), but Vernier calipers are more versatile for different measurement types. ✗ Quality control guarantees zero defects. ✓ QC detects defects through sampling and inspection; it does not guarantee zero defects because not every part is tested and some defects may be missed. ✗ A go/no-go gauge measures the exact dimension. ✓ Go/no-go gauges only check whether a dimension is within or outside tolerance; they do not give an exact measurement value. ✗ Statistical process control eliminates the need for any inspection. ✓ SPC reduces the need fo
