A grade 9 response will: 1) Marking out: draw the net on the acrylic's protective film. 2) Cutting: laser cut from 3 mm cast acrylic - ensure ventilation is on (fume extraction). 3) Bending: use a line bender - heat the bend line, bend to the required angle using a former, hold until cool. Safety: keep fingers away from the heating element. 4) Joining: apply acrylic cement (Tensol) using a fine brush - capillary action draws the solvent into the joint. Hold for 30 seconds. Safety: well-ventilated area, avoid skin contact. 5) Finishing: remove protective film, polish edges with wet-and-dry paper (240, 400, 600 grit), flame-polish edges with a blowtorch. Safety: keep blowtorch away from flammable materials.

Common Errors: Watch Out! Students often make mistakes here. Wrong: A laser cutter can cut through any material including thick metal. Correct: Laser cutters used in schools typically have 40-60 W CO2 tubes that can cut: acrylic (up to approx 10 mm), MDF/plywood (up to approx 6 mm), card, paper, fabric. They CANNOT cut: metals (CO2 laser wavelength reflects off metal surfaces), PVC (releases toxic chlorine gas), polycarbonate (discolours and produces fumes). Material choice for laser cutting is restricted - always check compatibility.
