Key Fact: Asteroids are rocky/metallic bodies, mostly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter
Key Fact: Comets are icy bodies that develop a coma and tail when they approach the Sun
Key Fact: A comet has a nucleus (solid core), coma (gas/dust cloud) and two tails: ion tail (pointing directly away from the Sun) and dust tail (curved)
Key Fact: Short-period comets originate from the Kuiper belt; long-period comets from the Oort cloud
Key Fact: Meteoroids are small rocky/metallic bodies in space; meteors ('shooting stars') are the visible streaks when they enter the atmosphere; meteorites are fragments that reach the ground
Key Fact: Notable asteroids include Ceres (also a dwarf planet) and Vesta

Exam Tips: Know the difference: meteoroid (in space), meteor (in atmosphere), meteorite (on ground) | Comet tails are caused by solar wind and radiation pressure — NOT by the comet's motion | Both exam boards test comet structure in detail | The Oort cloud is hypothetical — we infer it from long-period comet orbits
