Key Fact: Geostationary orbit: 35,786 km above the equator, 24-hour period, satellite appears stationary — used for comms and weather
Key Fact: Low Earth orbit (LEO): 160–2,000 km, ~90-minute period — used for Earth observation and the ISS
Key Fact: Polar orbit: passes over the poles, allowing full Earth coverage — used for mapping and reconnaissance
Key Fact: Space probes are uncrewed spacecraft sent to explore other bodies: orbiters, landers and rovers
