Common Errors: ✗ Sunglasses are safe for solar observation ✓ Only certified solar filters (e.g. Baader film, welder's glass #14) are safe — sunglasses do not block enough IR/UV radiation ✗ Looking through the eyepiece briefly at the Sun is safe ✓ Even a fraction of a second of concentrated sunlight through a telescope can cause permanent eye damage or blindness ✗ Dark adaptation is instant ✓ Full dark adaptation takes 20–30 minutes; even a brief flash of white light resets the process
