Teaching Script (35 mins):
Mins 0-5 - Hook: "Today: printmaking techniques. By the end you will be able to answer exam questions on it unaided. It connects to the rest of Art and Design because the ideas here recur across the spec."

Key Fact: Relief printing (linocut, woodcut) cuts away negative space; the raised surface is inked and printed.
Key Fact: Intaglio (drypoint, etching) holds ink in incised lines below the surface; the plate surface is wiped clean.
Key Fact: Screen printing forces ink through a mesh stencil; monoprinting creates one unique print from a painted surface.
Key Fact: Editioning means producing multiple identical prints; registration ensures colours align in multi-plate prints.

Common Errors: Watch Out! Students often make mistakes with this topic. Wrong: The print will look the same as the block or plate. Correct: Relief and intaglio prints are MIRROR IMAGES of the plate — text and directional elements will be reversed. Plan for this by working in reverse or accepting the reversal as part of the process.
